Below I have listed some of the most frequently asked questions that I get from clients. If there is something not covered below, please feel free to get in touch and I glady answer any questions you may have.
Do your hands ever hurt?
Yes, sometimes they do. Like any type of physical work sometimes hands, forearms, back and shoulders feel tired after a long day of therapy sessions. However, following a good self-care routine can avoid injury and help me give 100% to all my clients.
What training have you had?
I have a foundation degree in Complementary therapies and I am also an associate member of the FHT – Federation of Holistic Therapists the governing body for my industry.
Do you ever get clients with smelly feet?
Yes, that does happen sometimes. Generally, the majority of my clients are courteous enough to take a shower and arrive clean and fresh for their therapy session.
What are those little knots in my shoulders?
Those crunchy “knots" around your shoulder blades aren’t knots in the muscle fibres. They’re hypersensitive nodules that cause the muscle to contract – even when you aren’t actively using it. They also can’t magically go away after one session. However, regular massages combined with exercise, stretching and awareness of posture can make a huge difference in how you feel.
What if I fall asleep, snore or pass wind during my massage?
Well – that does happen. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. In fact, these are signs that your body is relaxing – which is the primary goal of massage therapy.
Should I wear underwear?
YES – Always keep your knickers on, please.
How often should I get a massage?
This depends on many factors; your physical condition, your mental and emotional health and of course your budget and circumstances. Once a week is ideal, although understandably it is not possible for everyone. Once a month is beneficial to notice positive changes in your physical health and stress levels.
Is deep tissue massage therapy better than Swedish massage therapy?
This is a personal preference depending on the amount of pressure and technique that you prefer. It is always best to listen to your body!
What should I do if I feel uncomfortable during my massage therapy?
SPEAK UP!
As a therapist, I am intuitive but not a mind reader. Always let me know if you need more or less pressure. If you are too hot or cold or if you need the toilet. I never want you to feel uncomfortable in the slightest.
Is massage painful?
It’s not unusual to feel some soreness after massage therapy. This is due to a release of lactic acid in the muscles.
I am self-conscious about....what should I do?
We all have parts of our bodies that we are self-conscious about. This is okay. Some areas you may be concerned about are; weight, body hair, scars, acne and blemishes.
Please, don’t let this stop you from getting help from a massage therapist. I am professionally trained. If you are sensitive about a particular area – tell me and I will avoid it. Whatever your concerns I will try to help you in a supportive judgement-free and friendly way.
Should I have massage therapy if I am not in any pain?
Massage therapy helps calm and relax your body. Therapy lowers cortisol and raises serotonin levels. Loosens tight muscles which can increase blood flow which may lead to lowering your blood pressure.
There are many different types and techniques of massage therapy including Swedish, aromatherapy and reflexology – these are especially relaxing and rebalancing for the body, mind and soul.
What happens at my first therapy?
I will ask you some general health questions. This is called a consultation. Where we discuss your current health, concerns and goals
Is massage therapy just to help you relax?
Massage therapy is excellent for relaxation. But, it also has many other benefits. Massage helps with chronic muscle aches and pains. It also helps to reduce stress and ease muscular tension. It’s also great for improving circulation, alleviating breathing problems, lowering blood pressure, reducing headaches, and improving daily mobility and well-being. Therapy can help you manage anxiety and depression. And not forgetting it promotes good healthy sleep!
Do I have to be a certain age?
Massage is available for all over the age of 18 years old.
